weekly csgo esports recap 31 august 2020

ESL One Cologne has ended yesterday, and we feel like we have to clarify a little mistake we’ve made last week: We said that Liquid and FURIA were eliminated, while in fact, elimination games were still ahead. Mondays, am I right?

We have to clarify because Liquid was one of the teams to reach the final in NA, but our prophecy of one of the non-FURIA and Liquid teams winning the tournament came through, with Evil Geniuses winning the NA Crown.

In Europe, a familiar story unfolded. An underdog came out of nowhere, met a French team in the final, and won. This time, the underdog was Heroic who swept perennial final-losers Team Vitality in convincing fashion. Between G2, Vitality, and Paris Saint-Germain, it seems like French clubs can’t seem to buy a win in both esports and traditional sports.

In Asia and Oceania, the usual suspects won with TYLOO overcoming Vici to win ESL One Cologne Asia and Renegades beating Avant in Oceania.

Other than that, it’s been a quiet week in CS:GO Esports, as we await official confirmations for the last Road To Rio qualifying event as well as the fate of the event itself in the face of the continuing pandemic in Brazil. We’ll keep you posted with more information next week!
